Love this. I'm fascinated by neuropsychological studies like this. And the more I read, the more convinced I become that much of what we consider uniquely human or animal is largely wiring. And conversely, the more I see about what they're finding in LLMs, the less confident I am in the lack of something more than 'math' going on in them.

It was never about the instruction set or the substrate through which the current flows. The true substrate of consciousness is the structured EM field created once per forward pass for the LLM, 40 times per second for humans.

The geometry of that field is obviously going to be influenced to some degree by the electromagnetic differences between silicon and carbon. But such phenomenological differences as may exist are neither confirmable from the outside nor observable to oneself.
